Archived blog content circa 2017. To keep up with my current blog posts, head over to Please Just Let Me Read.

This is my please just let me read chair. It's an antique.

please just let me read

October 14, 2016

I maintain a Very Strict Reading Schedule. You may know this about me; you may not. But I do. Very Strict Things are capitalized. (See above.) I’m reporting my adherence to the schedule—I’ve not yet fallen behind. I should amend that for the sake of full disclosure—technically I’m reading at my prescribed pace, I just keep inserting new books into the schedule, bumping it all out of whack. I think the time has arrived to officially abandon the ambition I’ve failed to actualize my entire adulthood: finish the books I already have before getting any new ones. I’m simply incapable. Books are my Kryptonite, my Achille’s heel, resistance is futile—books render me helpless. I surrender.

Oh, well.

So, seeing as how I’ve ditched any effort at restraint, my Very Strict Reading Schedule will stretch infinitely which is fine by me, because honestly, in most instances and circumstances, and during quite a few events I have no choice but to attend, I would just as soon be reading.

Here are a few examples:

Standing in line at the grocery store?—No chit-chat, stranger; please just let me read.

County Fair?—Go ahead and ride that dubiously safe carnival ride again, kids; please just let me read.

Husband’s corporate party?—I don’t know any of you; please just let me read.

Thanksgiving?—I just spent 3 days cooking for you people; please just let me read.

Please.

I’m not kidding even though it seems as though I might be. Or should be. Either way, please just let me read. And, as illustrated in the examples above, it’s almost always better to be reading.

In the spirit of being left alone to read, I am starting a new series on this blog! It’s called Please Just Let Me Read. (Capitalized, so you know what that means.) Just check out the page to find reviews and thoughts about my latest reads. Well, don’t go look yet as I’ve truly just thought this up and don’t actually have any content yet. I’m sure this breaks good blogging practices, but, hey, what’s that bummer sticker? “Well-behaved women seldom make history.” I’m not sure it applies here, but I do feel pretty naughty right now.

My first Please Just Let Me Read selection will be What the Waves Know by Tamara Valentine. I’ll post in about 2 or 3 weeks. Read along, too, if you like and we can chat about it here!

Okay, you go out there and have a great Friday and I will understand completely if you’d rather I stop blathering and just let you read. Please. I get you.

Find my novels, THE MOSQUITO HOURS and TALKING UNDERWATER, online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. And don’t forget your local independent bookstore! I’m curious about something: would you like to stay up-to-date on news about my books as well as have my latest blog posts conveniently delivered to your inbox? Then subscribe to my newsletter! Click on that little box right over there on the right. See how easy I made that for you? (You’re welcome.)
